Press Release

The PIPC Launches an Investigation into TVING Following Its Data Breach

June 4, 2026

(This is an unofficial translation of a press release, originally prepared in Korean.)

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that it has launched an investigation into TVING Corp. (TVING) following a data breach report submitted by the company on June 3, 2026.

TVING, one of Korea’s over-the-top media (OTT) service operators, reported that it identified unauthorized access to its database (DB) that contains users’ personal information on June 2, 2026. The leaked personal information is as follows:

● Leaked personal information: User ID, name, birth date, gender, connection information (CI), duplication information (DI), phone number, email address, refund account number, password and others (some of them are encrypted)

*CI: Information used to link users across different platforms

DI: Information used to prevent multiple accounts on a single platform

The PIPC will focus on examining whether the company was compliant with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), including the details of how the data breach took place, the scale of the data breach, compliance with safeguard requirements, and obligations related to the data breach report, through data submission requests and on-site investigations. The PIPC will take enforcement action when violations are identified in accordance with the PIPA.
